Based in New York City, Matthew Studios was established by Katherine Wildt O’Brien in 2008. Katherine began her career at a boutique interior design firm on Madison Avenue, and worked with a celebrity roster of clients. Here she developed a keen understanding of integrating fine art, custom furniture and lighting on large scale interior projects. She migrated into furniture and lighting, working with LucePlan NY, Kartell USA, Baldinger, and later Oxygen Lighting. At Baldinger she helped manage the launch of collections by esteemed designers Michael Graves, Finlandia Collection (Alvar Aalto) and Andre Putman. Besides learning about custom fabrication, she was introduced to a bevy of local skilled hand-painters, sculptors, glass makers, and metal fabricators. Today, Katherine works with a team of similarly skilled local artisans to create lighting, tables, and specialty hardware that is made by hand with refined detail. The Matthew Studios collection is inspired by nature and incorporates materials such as agate, quartz crystal, and semi-precious gemstones. Katherine has created custom projects for many notable clients including Tory Burch and Kate Spade, and her work has been featured in numerous magazines including Luxe, Architectural Digest, Veranda, House Beautiful, Traditional Home, and Vogue.
